Stresa
Stresa is an important centre of international
tourism, located half way up Lake Maggiore in
a panoramic position overlooking the Borromean
Islands.
Today Stresa is an important town with regards
to cultural events and international congress
meetings. The Lake has both sandy and pebbled
beaches along its shores which can be enjoyed.
The town itself and along its lake front promenade
has some fine historical villas. The 3 famous
Borromean Islands are within easy access from
Stresa by using the ferry boats or the smaller
water taxis which run frequently. Stresa
has another advantage, it lies at the foot of
Mount Mottarone which lies 4.500 ft high (1.500
m ). The Mountain can be climbed or there is
a cable car which operated in 2 stages, firstly
to the alpine gardens and secondly to the top
of Mt. Mottarone. Mottarone is a great area
to explore by mountain bike, trips can be organized.
Approximatly 1 km. to the south of Stresa you
will find Villa Pallavicino, which has fine
gardens and a small zoo one can visit.
